Is Instagram Removing Highlights in 2025?

Instagram is not removing the Highlights feature but implementing changes to how Highlights are displayed on user profiles. Traditionally, Highlights appeared as circular icons beneath the bio section on a user’s profile, allowing for quick access to selected Stories.

To streamline profile aesthetics and enhance user experience, Instagram is relocating these Highlights to a dedicated tab within the profile interface. However, Instagram hasn’t officially announced these changes.

According to a report from Social Media Today, Instagram has begun notifying users about this transition, indicating that the Story Highlights will move from above the profile grid to their own section within the profile tabs.

Why is Instagram Removing Highlights?

This adjustment aims to declutter the main profile view, providing a cleaner and more organized appearance. Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, mentioned that the goal is to simplify the profile layout and bring more content above the fold while allowing users to pin content and access a dedicated Highlights tab.

It’s important to note that while the location of Highlights is changing, the functionality remains intact. Users can continue to create, edit, and delete Highlights as before. To edit or delete a Highlight, users can log into the Instagram app, navigate to their profile, tap and hold the desired Highlight, and select the appropriate option.

This update is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to refine its platform and improve user engagement. By moving Highlights to a separate tab, Instagram aims to present a more streamlined profile layout, potentially enhancing the way users interact with content.
